Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
In 1982, it was established as the first national forest park in China, permitted by the State Council. Covering 13 sp km, the forest park is known for its various rare plants and animals, quartz sandstone peaks and mountains and gorgeous brooks. This park is also famous for a great painter, Mr Wu Guanzhong, a spokesman of Zhangjiajie’s beauty. There are many highlights in this park, such as rhesus monkey garden, Huangshi Fort, Jinbian Brook(Golden Whip Brook) and Jinbian Peak.
The national-protected plants, named “Gong tong”, translated as “Chinese dove tree”. The Chinese dove trees usually have their blossoms at the end of spring and the beginning of summer. The blossom looks like a flying pigeon, with two pieces as its wings. This is one of the precious plants in our country, hence the dear foreigners like to call it as “ the Chinese pigeon blossom”.
There is an another kind of grade one of national protected plants—metasequoia. It can be traced back to many years ago, and it was said that it has died out since the fourth century of glacier. But, in 1941, it was found by the biologists in Sichuan province. And it was really a big fortune for Zhang jiajie after being found in 1982 when the Zhang jiajie was developed.
